I have a 3 year old Toshiba laptop that I’m not going to replace anytime soon. Can I play Blu-ray discs on it?

Now that HD-DVD has lost the format war by Warner backing out, and Toshiba have dropped the format. does anybody use their PS3 for blu-ray to watch movies? What’s the quality of the films like on this player? This seems the cheapest way to go for a blue ray machine. Not really interested in it as a games machine, but you never know?

i have a toshiba hlc 37′ tv and it will play ps3 games when hooked up with hdmi cable, but with the blu ray movies i only get sound and no video, might this be because its trying to push 1080p when my tv can only handle 1080i, i am going to buy components today to see if the blu ray movies work then, anybody know what the dang problem is why i cant see blu ray movies??? i have checked every possible problem…

I read that Toshiba ended dvd productions. Im guessing they will start to make blu ray players now. Does this mean that blu ray has won or is 100% going to win? If blu ray does win, will dvd be erased completely, meaning no more dvd/hd-dvd movies, no more dvd players, and such? What would happen if blu ray does win, particularly asking about the 360, will it be ended or forced to use blu ray next year. Thanks

universal was the last company that backed toshiba’s hd-dvd. Since blu-ray won the format war and toshiba is going to halt production of hd-dvd at the end of may what will universal do? Does anyone know if they are going to re-release their titles that were previously on hd-dvd on blu-ray and when are they going to start releasing on blu-ray? thanks.
